Finally a Fundamentalist who is Making Some Sense

Phil from teampyro.blogspot.com, has finally posted something that makes sense. He cautions all those conservative watchbloggers to stop the GBA. It's about time someone in the Fundamentalist movement began to look at the bigger picture.

My great hope in all of this is that they're done after this generation. They've been incapable of capturing the hearts and minds of middle class white kids. (Mostly because there's not much disillusionment there). Since that is primarily the target audience it's just about over. In fact it will be over in my lifetime. Looking forward to never seeing post like this one at slice of laodecia. http://www.sliceoflaodicea.com/archives/2006/08/rick_warren_the_1.php

I look forward to all of these people going away and a more rational and reasonable Christianity emerging.

I understand your frustration, but what you are saying is just as wrong as conservatives or fundamentalists getting frustrated by their opposites on the left and wishing that all the goofy liberals would just disappear. If we are Christians our hope for all is that they will glorify God, uphold the gospel, love Christ and proclaim truth.

Why thanks, Rob!

I don't plan on going away any time soon, but love and hugs just the same!

Rob, that was simply sycophantic... :-)

Rob,

Interesting that you pick that post as one that is unreasonable in your estimation. My question is, what is it in Fundamentalism as you see it that you are opposed to?

That post you selected as your negative example makes it look like you are apposed to the gospel...

The "target audience" for "fundamentalism" is "middle-class white kids"?!?!?!?
ROTFLOL!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Take a good look at the third world, (you know, the non-middle class and non-white part of the world!) and tell me which brand of Christianity is growing by leaps and bounds. Tell me who's sending missionaries to the most needy and destitute regions of the planet, and meeting physical AND spirirual needs? I'll give you a hint --it's not the latte-sipping-arrrogant-elitist-tolerate-everything-but-orthodoxy-liberal-Episcopal(and other apostate churches) version of "Christianity". It's almost ALWAYS those who believe (whether Romanist,Protestant, or whatever)that Christianity is what Francis Schaeffer called "true truth", and that God actually revealed Himself to us in the words of the Bible, not just as man's opinion, but as propositional truth. If that's "Fundamentalism" in your eyes, so be it!

Since the basic principle of fundamentalism is separation from evil, the only way they'll go away is if all Christians embrace evil. I'm not willing to do that, so you'll probably have to wait until at least I'm dead.

Lance congratulations you've seperated yourself into extinction. Aren't we supposed to be in the world?

Sola, this is my frustration leaking out and was not directed towards you.

Robert, are you kidding me? The Anglican church is booming in Africa. Hardly the fundamentalist ilk. Although I will give you that it tends to be the more conservative of the Anglicans.

Jeff, great question. I object to the rampant criticism that Fundamentalism gives to anyone who doesn't agree. I think it offers a narrow definition of what it means to be a Christian. So narrow that it leaves no room for Mystery. Someone in Fundamentalism needs to explain the theif on the Cross to me in the bounds of the Fundamentalist theology. I don't think it can be done.

I object to the inability to discuss anything rationally. I object to the frequent ratcheting up of rhetoric in which others are villified rather then debated.

I object to blogspotters nitpicking away at anyone they don't agree with. I object to your treatment of women as leaders in the church. I object with you putting words in the Bible that aren't there. Infalliability, Inerrancy, please chapter and verse any of these concepts. I object to the rapture, again please chapter and verse that phrase rapture. I object to you adhering to Sola Scriptura except when you don't. (ie rapture, inerrancy, infalliability etc.)

I will continue to post on what specifically I object to more as time goes on and the inconsistencies and errors in fundamentalism. Much like your Slice of Laodecia.

Could you cite some actual statistics? Fundamentalists scoff at the likes of Mother Teresa (yes, that eternally damned Catholic) for only meeting the physical needs while sending people to hell.

So which fundamentalist organizations are doing what you are saying?
